This is the most commonly used retainer at Smith + Pisklak Orthodontics. The removable clear retainer fits over the entire arch of teeth. These retainers have no metal wires and are virtually invisible. They are very durable and easy to wear. By being removable, they allow you to easily clean your teeth.
An additional benefit for some patients, these retainers provide protection while worn to prevent wear (attrition) to your teeth from grinding or clenching.
Hawley Removable Retainers
The Hawley removable retainer is made of a combination of metal wires and sturdy acrylic. This retainer fits snugly and comfortably in the roof of your mouth, while the wire and acrylic framing keeps your teeth in position. By being removable, they allow you to easily clean your teeth. The Hawley retainer provides some benefits that removable clear retainers do not, and therefore are a better choice for some patients.
